Matthew Cairns

Matthew Cairns is our Coordinator Grounds and Facilities here at the Blacktown International Sports Park and has been involved in the sports turf industry for over 35 years.

In 1998 Matthew commenced his time at Blacktown City Council in the Parks and Gardens section, now known as Greenspace Services, where he was positioned to assist the Greenkeepers at Joe McAleer and Whalan Oval. In March 2000 Matthew was appointed as Head Greenkeeper and Councils representative with the Olympic Contractors, to maintain and deliver the facilities at the Blacktown Olympic Centre for the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

Matthew is a qualified Sports Turf Manager who oversees the year-round maintenance and preparation of all sports surfaces, common areas and facilities at Blacktown International Sports Park, Blacktown Football Park and Joe McAleer Oval.

Since 2000 Matthew has been involved in delivering a number of key projects across the Sports Park including:

  • Athletics grandstand and track upgrades
  • Baseball grandstand
  • AFL/Cricket facility
  • Blacktown Football Park development
  • Blacktown Exercise Sports and Technology Hub (BEST)
  • Blacktown Disability Sport Centre

In 2021 Matthew was awarded the Australian Sports Turf Management (ASTMA) inaugural Excellence in Sportsfield Management Award.
